Do we have to host on Vercel?

No. Vercel is built by the Next.js team and is often the easiest option, but Next.js also runs on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, and self-managed servers. We will walk through the cost and control tradeoffs and deploy wherever suits your business.

Can Next.js replace our separate backend?

Sometimes. Route handlers and server actions cover authentication, forms, payments, and CMS calls without a separate service. Heavy processing, complex business logic, or an existing system you already rely on are better kept where they are.

Can you migrate our existing React app?

Usually yes, and it is rarely a rebuild. Your components mostly carry over, with routing and data fetching being the real work. We migrate section by section so the current site keeps running while the new one comes together behind it.

Next.js is a framework built on top of React. React on its own renders in the browser, which means the first thing a visitor or a search crawler receives is a nearly empty page that fills itself in a moment later. Next.js can render that page on the server or build it in advance, so the content arrives complete in the very first response.

That difference lands in two commercially important places. Search engines index what shows up in that first response, so any page you need ranking should not depend on JavaScript finishing first. And visitors decide whether to stay in about a second, which a finished page wins and a loading spinner loses more often than most teams realize.

These are not competitors, which trips people up. Next.js is React with the pieces most teams end up assembling themselves already included: routing, server rendering, image handling, and an API layer. Your developers are not learning a new language, they are skipping several months of setup decisions and the maintenance that follows them.

The dividing line is who needs to see the page. Anything behind a login, an admin dashboard or an internal tool, runs perfectly well in plain React, because no search engine will ever look at it. Anything public that has to rank or load fast on a stranger’s first visit belongs in Next.js. Plenty of our clients run one of each, sharing a backend.
